Most of you will be aware of the Windows computer scam which has been around for some time. However, as there are probably a number of people who have not heard of it, I am circulating details again. It is still out there and today I received probably my fourth call from these fraudsters. You might receive one next. The BBC television in a programme on scams this week highlighted this scam with a warning.
You receive a telephone call from a person who says that he/she is calling from Microsoft Windows and that your computer is sending out signals that can contaminate other computers- You are asked to remove this problem by following instructions whilst operating your computer. You are then charged large sums of money for the privilege of removing the problem but when you later use your computer, then the problem is that it does not work and needs repairing by a computer technician. These fraudsters are very plausible and use international codes from anywhere in the world making it difficult to trace.
NHW ADVICE – if you receive such a call terminate the call immediately. On no account part with your bank/credit card details.
