Five members of the National Police have today been credited with saving a man’s life after 45 minutes of cardiopulmonary resuscitation whilst waiting for an ambulance.
The incident took place on Monday morning when the mother of the injured man called the emergency services to report that her son had collapse in the hallway of their home and was unconscious.
A police patrol responded immediately and, after checking vital signs, immediately began CPR, suspecting the man had suffered a cardiac arrest.
The officers took turns steadily and continuously in the resuscitation attempts which lasted for about 45 minutes, until an emergency medical team reached them.
The police patrol then escorted the ambulance to hospital to ensure as fast a journey as possible, where the officers were congratulated for their efforts, no doubt also to be praised by the victim and his family as they live through Christmas, despite an extremely worrying response time by the ambulance service who have suffered tremendous cuts to their service throughout the year.
