A school bus carrying 21 high school students plunged down a cliff on Tuesday after leaving the road during its morning journey to school, between the Valencia towns of Dos Aguas and Buñol.
Two students, aged 16 and 17, and a class monitor were seriously injured in the crash, when the bus left the road for reasons which are now being investigated by the Guardia Civil.
The incident occurred at 07:12 on Tuesday morning, at kilometre 63.5 of the CV-580, in Buñol. The bus was heading to the institute of Buño, carrying students aged between 14 to 17 years, from the towns of Dos Aguas and Millares.
Emergency ambulances, Guardia Civil, fire fighters and two helicopters were sent to the scene, with thee people having to be cut from the bottom of the bus where it had landed.
The bus was built in 2008 and had passed the mandatory ITV vehicle test just 3 weeks ago, and was fitted with seat belts and safety measures. The driver is said to have known the routs as he is a regular operator of the service, it is also believed that a blood alcohol test proved negative.
