A fire forced the evacuation of three houses on Sunday in the hamlet of El Mudamiento close to Almoradi.
The source was reported as being the back yard of one of the properties in which a large amount of firewood was piled.
Fortunately, according to firefighters attending the scene, despite the smoke and initial ferocity of the flames, there were no injuries and everyone was safely evacuated.
The fire originated in the yard of one of the properties located in the hamlet of El Oriolana Mudamiento in a complex of three houses which were all inhabited by members of one family.
It started at about 1pm, although the initial cause is unknown, but it then spread very quickly through stacks of accumulated firewood which was to be used as fuel both in the house and on the outdoor barbecue. Although the owner first tried to douse the flames himself, he was overcome by the fire and was forced to call the emergency services for help.
The column of smoke could be seen for miles around and quickly attracted a large number of onlookers , however the security forces cordoned off the perimeter of the house to avoid incidents.
The bomberos were able to bring the fire under control in just under an hour
