The pilot of a Eurofighter Typhoon was killed on Monday after crashing near to the airbase of Morón de la Frontera in Seville.
The pilot, was named as capitán Fernando Lluna and was confirmed to have died by the ministry of defence, who also said that the pilot was married and had a son.
The crash happened at around 2pm on Monday, shortly after takeoff from the airbase, on a routine exercise, before falling from the sky “sharply”, according to witnesses, crashing to the ground.
Since 1980, some 93 military personnel have died in aircraft incidents in Spain, the most serious being in 1984 when a C-130 Hercules crashed, the second most serious in 1980, when 11 soldiers were also killed when another Hercules crashed in Gran Canaria.
More recently, in March of this year four people were killed when a Super Puma helicopter crashed in the sea off Gran Canaria, the wreck only recently recovered.
