The anticipated direct bus link from Benidorm and Torrevieja to the high speed train at Villena, due to start on Monday of this week, has been delayed due to problems agreeing elements of the service with the bus operator.
The mayor of Villena, Francisco Javier Esquembre, ensures that companies will sign the agreement “in the coming days”, although no fixed date has yet been confirmed for the start of the service.
There has also been no further information on the charter bus that train operator Renfe had promised, which was organised due to the mayor of Alicante, Sonia Castedo, refusing to allow the service from her city to the coastal towns, supporting suggestions by taxi drivers that the service would cause unnecessary congestion on the roads.
Once the required steps have been carried out and approved by all parties involved, the train company will begin to offer the combined tickets for sale, and will launch a promotional campaign supporting the new service, once it finally starts.
