The social welfare department of Alicante City Council has signed a collaboration agreement with DIY chain Leroy Merlin, which will directly help young people searching for a job and families who are in need.
The company will provide materials which will be used in workshops by unemployed people of the city looking to gain key skills and improve their chances of securing a job in the future. As part of the scheme, the company will also take on a number of those who qualify into roles within their stores.
Secondly, through the assistance of volunteers, the company will also provide tools and materials in order for repairs to be carried out on the homes of those unable to pay for work due to financial restraints caused by the financial hardships that austerity and mass unemployment has brought.
The councillor for social action, Antonio Ardid, and the director of the Leroy Merlin store in Parque Vistahermosa, José María Gil Quinzá, are responsible for making the agreement which will go some way to ease the burden of the needy whilst literally laying foundations for future employment.
The relationship is not new however, it has just been extended to cover these latest elements. The store has already been responsible for donating items to social centres in the area, particularly during Christmas time and fiestas, which they still intend to continue in the future.
