The Directorate General of Traffic in Spain, the DGT, has submitted a contract to public tender to provide the equipment and software to assist the Guardia Civil traffic department to deal with fines, infractions and complaints faster at the roadside.
In particular, as part of the 8.6 million euro contract, the Dgt want traffic cops to be able to process more fines and complaints at the site, whilst automatically checking any data needed in processing the claim, using a system called Proceso de Informatización de Denuncias, or Pride for short, in their processing of millions of complaints processed each year.
The procurement documents state that the award is for a period of 48 months, with a view to start on the 1st of September this year. The process is the next development in automation since the Dgt started to process fines in this manner in 2004. The successful company will have to provide around 6,000 hand-held terminals, software and updates, and maintain or replace around 4,000 printers, as well as back-office and auxiliary devices and support.
With the new equipment being put in place, not only will traffic police be able to cope better and process fines more efficiently, they will soon be able to streamline the operation to pass their annual figure, with an average of 5,500 fines per day, 200 per hour on average, targeting those who make the roads a more dangerous place for all.
