A boat containing eleven refugees was intercepted at the port of Alicante on Wednesday morning.
It was met by immigration officers together with 8 Red Cross volunteers, translators, ambulance and health staff, who checked and interviewed each of them as they were landed onshore.
The 11 people, all male, are said to be aged between 25 and 35, although one is thought to be only 17 years. Whilst their origin has not yet been confirmed, most have claimed to come from Algeria.
According to Andrés Chessa, Head of Operational Support, "the health of all of them is good, so there is no need for any of them to be moved to a medical facility."
Following medical checks Red Cross volunteers provided each of the arrivals with new clothes and food and drink "to stabilize their glucose levels" said Chessa.
