The Governing Board of the City of Torrevieja dismissed on Thursday a petition signed by three members of the Policia Local requesting that the municipality meets the legal costs of a court case to be held on 6 October where they will be dealt with following a municipal complaint last April when, during a protest against their working conditions, they removed their shirts to reveal their bodies painted with slogans.
The agents said that as city officials, they are entitled to legal assistance and that the should meet the cost of their lawyers as there was no negligence, willful misconduct or bad faith in any of their actions.
The Board stated that the officers were in civilian clothes and not on duty at the time, they say that their alleged behavior was disorderly and hardly in keeping with the actions expected from the holders of such a respectable office.
More recently the officers and their grievances were in the news again, when they hired a ‘cherry picker’ to lift local comedian Fernando Esteso to a Town Hall window, inside which the local plenary were meeting, whilst he was dressed as Jesus and crucified to a wooden cross. The act brought widespread condemnation from church leaders and city officials alike.
