A company named Api Movilidad S.L. has been awarded a 325,957 euro contract with Orihuela town hall this week, to maintain, replace and provide missing street name signs across the municipality.
The first zone assigned as a priority for the company will be the Orihuela Costa area, where a recent audit revealed that there are 642 missing street name signs and 704 house identifiers absent. Not only has this made it very difficult for residents and visitors to find their way around at times, it has led to confusion hen emergency services have had to attend incidents, and may well constitute towards an electoral low offence, as denounced many years ago by the Claro political group in 2007, whilst the municipality was governed by the Partido Popular.
Now the contract has been awarded, once the town hall has set out the plans of priority with the company, the work should commence in around 90 days.
Meanwhile, the town hall has still not received a response from the Correos postal service regarding the suspension of some home deliveries on the coast from the 1st of September. The acting mayor, Antonio Zapata, had written to them to ask for the temporary suspension of the cut until the courts resolve if this would be legal or not, but they have failed to respond. The courts have acted quickly however and agreed that there is a case for a precautionary suspension of the cessation of deliveries, but the planned actions of the post office apparently seem to suggest that the service will be stopped, and would subsequently have to be dealt with through the courts.
