The people of Pilar abandoned their cars and motorcycles at the weekend as the town’s more environmentally friendly equestrian festival took place with twenty horse carriages parading along Calle Mayor, and through many of the back streets, entertaining the large crowds of residents and visitors who were in the area to enjoy the fun.
The procession was made up by over 100 people who rode in horse drawn carriages on a journey that began about 11 am lasting for over two hours as it wound its way around the municipality carrying the queens and the ladies of the town.
Many of the participants were dressed in traditional costumes with the girls and ladies weaving flowers into their hair to add to the blaze of color that the spectacle provided
The festive atmosphere was complemented with the presence of ladies weaving lace in the town hall square while others demonstrated the dying art of sewing and darning to the many young onlookers.
