The amount of revenue collected through traffic fines has been reducing annually since 2011, according to the DGT traffic department in response to a question raised through parliament this week.
In 2011, the Dgt collected 458 million euro in fines, which dropped to 406 million in 2012 and 389 million in 2013. In the first half of this year, the amount collected was 188.5 million euro, which would equate to 377 million should the same amount be collected by the end of the year.
Drivers in Andalucía have contributed the most for their poor driving habits, handing over 83.7 million euro last year, 16 million less than their 98.9 million euro total in 2011, and slightly more than their first half of the year contribution of 40,395,250 euro.
Drivers in the Valencia region handed over 50.2 million euro in 2011, reducing that amount to 38,700,000 in 2013, and 21.2 million in the first half of this year, therefore potentially increasing the amount to an annual figure of 22.4 million euro at year end.
However, with three different unmarked radar cars spotted operating at the same time this week on the N-332 in the Torrevieja and Orihuela Costa area alone, that closing figure may well surpass expectations, as drivers still ignore the speed limits on the road and run the risk of the men and women of green relieving them of their hard earned cash, which can not only be done at the time, but under the new laws that came into force in July, could also mean a bill landing on your door for your haste to get to your destination.
