Former mayor of Orihuela, Mónica Lorente of the Partido Popular, will appear in court on the 13th of February, to give evidence in the a case in which the prosecution accuses her of a crime of influence peddling.
The trial is in connection with the award for municipal waste management, in which Lorente acted as an “intermediary” between the former President of the Alicante provincial government, José Joaquin Ripoll, and Orihuela businessman, Ángel Fenoll, himself found guilty of corruption, and in this case Lorente acted “in the interests of economic favour” of Fenoll, according to the prosecution.
The case is built around the location of a waste management plant and the subsequent relocation which coincided with land previously purchased by Fenoll.
The judge considered that the reports filed by the police and the prosecutor reveal sufficient evidence of the participation by Mónica Lorente in the events under investigation either “directly or collaterally”, and so she is called to testify at 10:00 on the 13th of February.
