Using their majority in government, the Partido Popular of Torrevieja rejected a motion on Friday tabled by the Los Verdes green party to remove the title of “adopted son” of Torrevieja given to the former president of the region, Francisco Camps.
The spokesperson for the PP, Joaquín Albaladejo, justified the rejection on account of the belief that the motion is driven solely by personal obsession on the part of the greens, as it is the third time the motion has been tabled, and the third time it has been rejected.
José Manuel Dolón, the spokesperson for the Los Verdes, says that the reason for the claim is that Camps “is an example of a management period of the Partido Popular splashed by corruption” and that the former mayor, Pedro Hernández Mateo, now in prison, only made the proposal to affirm his own personal political career.
The PSOE socialists supported the motion, whereas the alternative APTCE group abstained.
