The Chief Coastal Officer Rosa de los Rios was in Pilar de la Horadada last week looking at the damage caused to local beaches by the recent storms.
She was accompanied by the mayor together with the head of the Provincial Coastal Service Alicante along with a number of his technicians.
The party toured las playas de las Villas y de las Higuericas, both of which, as a result of the powerful waves, have suffered a significant loss of sand as well as considerable damage to the adjacent dunes and the wooden boardwalks leading down to the beaches.
The mayor, José Fidel Ros, stressed the need to find solutions to the problems which occur year on year. He said that the authorities need to increase the amount of sand deposited on the beaches compared to that made last year.
The situation has been described as urgent by all groups, among which were also the directors of the Torre de la Horadada Yacht Club, which has been busy in recent days extracting sand that had accumulated in the harbor entrance.
