VISITORS FLOCK TO LA MATA NATURAL PARK
Almost three-hundred people took part in activities centred around the Natural Park of the Lagunas de La Mata and Torrevieja during the week after Easter.
During the period, the participants enjoyed various activities organized by the Park Management, including the campaign “Easter in the Parks” which was arranged by the Ministry of Environment from the Generalitat Valenciana.
In amongst the activities the participants were introduced to the mysteries of the Lagunas de la Mata, history dating back to the fifteenth century, by Luís de Santángel, administrator of the salt museum. There was also a gymkhana, various ornithological displays and nest box workshops. And if that were not enough, more than a hundred people attended a presentation which showed the difficulties that are so often encountered by different species of birds when they come to nest in the Natural Park.
The main purpose of the events and workshops has been to increase sensitivity and awareness toward nature, environmental education for those people who might otherwise not come into contact with such activities.
Organisers were keen to make visitors aware that the park engages in such activities on a regular basis, all year round, in a totally free environment where families can experience nature and the outdoors together.
A regular newsletter is available advising of all forthcoming events at:
