The Torrevieja Planning Department has put out to tender the demolition of two buildings adjoining the Town Hall at a proposed cost of 450,000 euros. Details of the technical specifications were published on the Town Hall website last week.
The whole process is to be completed within eight months although the current mayor, Eduardo Dolon, said that he hoped the successful contractor would conclude the works within a much shorter period of time.
The two properties to be demolished were formerly houses occupied by priests from the Inmaculada Concepción church with the plot vacated being used to accommodate a three-story building containing municipal services that are scattered across the town in rented offices.
The first phase of the project will consist of the demolition of the existing buildings and the erection of the ground floor of a new building covering an area of more than five hundred square meters.
The project will see the creation of an internal courtyard which could be accessed from the street, connecting both the main building and the old City Hall directly across from the Plaza de la Constitution. A courtyard garden will also be provided by creating a space that could also serve as a waiting room for people who will be using the new administrative facility.
The deadline for submission of tenders will be 26 days from the publication of the original notice in the Provincial Gazette, which the mayor expects to appear in the coming days.
Eduardo Dolon said that he hopes the works can get underway after the summer as they have already been delayed by over a year because of technical problems.
