No Bull in Guardamar
Guardamar del Segura has become the first municipality in the Vega Baja area to ban bullfighting.
The minority PSOE government approved the motion, which follows on from a previous ban on circuses with animals, although they later faced criticism of this when they allowed a circus to take place, saying that the animals belonging to the circus were not performing, and so it did not contravene their local legislation.
Animal rights groups have supported the bullfighting ban and hope that Guardamar will become the benchmark for other municipalities to do the same.
