Cruising into Torrevieja
Spokesperson for the government of Torrevieja, Fanny Serrano, who also holds the post of councillor for tourism, has hit back at accusations that the town hall is doing nothing to promote the city to the cruise passengers who will be visiting on board the AMADEA on Saturday.
Facing criticism from the former mayor, Eduardo Dolón, Serrano has insisted that the cruise ship arrival was arranged last year and is a relatively small affair, with just 600 passengers and 200 crew on board, due to arrive at 16:30, departing at 21:00, and so this leave “a relatively small margin to manage”.
Excursions had already been arranged to places such as Cartagena, a popular cruise destination already, and the Zenia Boulevard shopping centre, and the most optimistic forecast is for “about 150 or 200” people being left behind, who will be cared for once the shuttle boats arrive at the Marina Salinas, and can then enjoy the benefits that Torrevieja has to offer.
