An off-duty lifeguard pulled a 69-year-old swimmer out of the water at Torrevieja’s La Mata beach on Sunday morning, with the bather rushed to Torrevieja Hospital in a serious condition. The male bather who has homes in both Torrevieja and Madrid was spotted floating in the water close to the Avenida de los Europeos at around 10.25am and the off-duty Cruz Roja lifeguard who was surfing in the area, attended to the swimmer before paramedics arrived on the scene.
