On Tuesday, the Base Aérea de Talavera la Real (Badajoz) will be the location of a mock plane crash, aimed at testing the emergency services in the event of a real incident.
The training exercise will see all elements of the emergency services working together as if a real crash has happened, in order to identify both strengths and weaknesses in their operation and communication protocols.
As a result of the incidents, there will be a number of road closures around the base in Extremadura, between 10:00 and 14:00.
This sort of drill is common practice for the emergency teams. During this last month alone there have been mock rescues at sea, a training exercise at one of the nuclear power plants and even a fire evacuation exercise at Alicante-Elche airport.
It is stressed that these activities are routine aimed at preparing operatives for the stark reality of potential emergencies. They do not form any hidden agenda of an increased threat, as the government of Spain are keen to point out, the current threat level in Spain is being maintained at the same level as it was before recent atrocities.
