Maintenance workers have been carrying out repairs to a road bridge over the N-332 at the Gran Alacant area for a number of weeks.
The route is one of the main roads that connects Alicante-Elche airport with the south Alicante towns such as Torrevieja and the Orihuela Costa, and others.
On Monday 18th April, the work enters its final stage, with minor diversions and speed restrictions in place that may cause delays to airport traffic.
This stage will be split into two segments, which will operate over the next four to five weeks.
Traffic travelling in the Alicante direction will be diverted off the main road and through what is normally a slip road allowing access to the petrol station.
For the first half of the closure this will allow workers to renovate the section of bridge directly above the Alicante-bound carriageway. Traffic in the Cartagena direction will not be affected, other than a reduction in the maximum permitted speed through the works.
Then, for the second half of the work, the same Alicante-bound diversion will remain, but Cartagena-bound traffic will be moved over onto the Alicante-bound side of the N-332 to allow the work to continue above the Cartagena-bound lane.
Main traffic will not be affected too much other than delays at peak times on account of the reduction in speed, although traffic intending to go from Gran Alacant in the Cartagena direction will face the biggest amount of disruption as the slip road onto the N-332 in that direction will be closed for the duration.
