Torrevieja council has formally launched the start of the process to advertise a new waste collection contract after the government team had their plans for the municipality to take control of garbage collection voted down a few weeks ago.
Councillor Fanny Serrano says that the government team will ask for council officers to come up with proposals to speed up the advertising of the tender as a matter of urgency, and also confirmed that it will be a single contract, with waste collection and street cleaning not being split, as had been rumoured. The private contractor Acciona is continuing to maintain a service on a monthly basis, despite its contract with the authority ending in the summer.
