A retired British teacher has been arrested in the Alicante Province town of Pego on a variety of sexual assault charges involving children back in the 1980’s in Berkshire. The 74-year-old was detained after the National Police were tipped off that the man was living in Pego, near Denia, and is accused of assaulting two girls aged 13 and 16 at a school that he taught at in Maidenhead.
Authorities said that the unnamed man faces a possible maximum sentence of 40 years in jail if convicted, and he has been taken to the National Court in Madrid, ahead of an extradition hearing. It’s the fourth arrest in recent months of suspected paedophiles in Alicante Province trying to avoid justice in the UK.
