An Orihuela local police officer was injured on Monday night, after he was hit by a man who was suspected of robbing a Villamartin shop.
The man, said by the police to be South American, was spotted walking around the area, after two patrol cars were sent to investigate reports of two men breaking into a store.
Two officers asked the man for some identification and then he knocked one of them down, with the agent suffering several bruises. He ran away and a chase ensued through the Villamartin urbanisation, with the Guardia Civil from Pilar de la Horadada called in as reinforcements.
He was eventually caught, but still violently tried to resist arrest. The investigation remains active as security footage from the premises shows an accomplice involved in the burglary.
