Absorb Yourself into Drama in Historic Surroundings

Published

For many, there are few things more interesting than getting absorbed into a television drama, a film or a book, but what if that drama were to come to life, in front of your very eyes, so you can see, hear, touch and feel the power of the performance in the surroundings where it is set.

That is exactly the idea behind the phenomenon known as “Dramatised Walks”, where actors take you through a story, often quite literally, playing their parts and taking you on a journey through history, fact or fiction, in the precise location where the story was imagined.

The historic city of Cartagena is one such location. The great Roman architect Vitruvius will surprise his guests with a night visit to the Roman theatre and museum, where he will explain the golden proportions of the building and the ideal of classical beauty.

In addition, you will feel like a spectator in the final performance in one of the best theatres of antiquity around.

The dates for the Cartagena guided walks are July (7 and 21), August (18) and September (1 and 15), starting at 9:00 p.m. The event lasts around 1 hour and 15 minutes and is suitable for all audiences, young and not so young.

You can get more information on the Cartagena talks from the local tourist information office, or by telephoning 968 500 093. If you do want to go though, be quick, as places are limited.

Meanwhile, a little further north, the historic city of Orihuela are also offering similar talks.

The Armengola Dramatized Walk starts on June 29, with a repeat on July 13, both taking place in the city itself, setting off from the tourist information office. This event also transfers location to the Orihuela Costa on July 7, meeting at the ‘Roman Bridge’ in Campoamor.

There is also an Historic Heritage Dramatised Walk on July 28, again in the city and setting off from the tourist information office.

More information on the Orihuela talks can be obtained at the Tourist information office Orihuela Centro and Orihuela Playa, telephone 96 530 46 45 (Centro) or 96 676 00 00, ext. 32 (Playa).

If you live on the coast the town hall are also offering the possibility of arranging a bus link to the city, if sufficient people ask for it, so please get in touch with them sooner rather than later if you do.
