Valencia to Close Municipalities at Weekends

The president of the Valencia Community, Ximo Puig, has announced the perimeter closure of municipalities with more than 50,000 inhabitants will be decreed during weekends and holidays to combat the coronavirus. Puig has also confirmed that meetings in private spaces will be limited to people living together, and meetings in public spaces will be limited to 2 people.

The news was shared by the President on Sunday by a video message following a conference with the Minister of Health, Ana Barceló , the undersecretary, Mònica Almiñana, and the regional secretary of Public Health and the Public Health System, Isaura Navarro . Puig has announced that the new restrictions will take effect from their publication in the DOGV this Monday and that they will be valid until February 15.

The perimeter confinement will be applied from 3:00 p.m. on Friday until 6:00 a.m. the following Monday, and will affect the municipalities of València, Torrent, Gandia, Paterna and Sagunt in the province of Valencia ; Alicante, Elche, Torrevieja, Orihuela, Benidorm, Alcoi, Sant Vicent del Raspeig and Elda-Petrer in Alicante ; and Castelló and Vila-real in the province of Castellón.

Exceptions

Puig has clarified, however, the restrictions marked for family and social gatherings have some exceptions. In this sense, it will be allowed to exceed the limits set if the meetings are in the workplace or institutional, activities related to the educational field or necessary for the care of vulnerable people .
