The National Police have arrested a 39-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman in Santander as alleged perpetrators of the crimes of document falsification and fraud for charging more than 4,000 euro in purchases to a card of a man who had lost his wallet in 2014.
As reported by police sources, the victim, a citizen residing in La Rioja, reported almost seven years ago at the Logroño Police Station that he had lost his wallet in that city, in which he carried all his documentation, a bank card and 50 euro in cash.
In May 2018, this same person again denounced in Logroño police offices that an unknown person had registered a telephone line online in Madrid and had bought a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 phone using his affiliation data, as well as that the telephone company claimed 137 euro from him for non-payment of the telephone line and 887.99 euro for the terminal.
At the end of 2019, the victim reported again at the police station that he had received a letter from a law firm informing him that he had a debt of 2,158.29 euro for the purchase of a ring that he had not made, but for which he had they had used his personal data.
Finally, in July 2020, this same person received a notification from a Santander Court of First Instance claiming 884.95 euro for a debt with a financial services company. Again, using his personal data, they had financed the purchase of a smartphone, specifically an IPhone 8 plus.
The investigations carried out by the Logroño Police pointed out that the possible perpetrators of the scams could reside in Santander, for which the agents coordinated with the Higher Police Headquarters of Cantabria to clarify the facts.
Finally, the steps taken by the Economic and Technological Crime Group of the Santander Judicial Police culminated in the identification of the perpetrators, who turned out to be a man with initials APP with a prior record, and a woman, TJP, who were arrested.
After giving a statement at the police station, the detainees were released with charges and the obligation to appear before the judicial authority when required to do so.
