Spain has performed more than 40.4 million diagnostic tests since the COVID-19 epidemic began. Specifically, the autonomous communities have notified the Ministry of Health that, until April 29, they have carried out a total of 40,462,407 diagnostic tests. Of these, 30,277,072 are PCR and 10,185,335 are antigen tests.
In the last week, from April 23 to 29, the autonomous communities have carried out a total of 578,022 PCR, an average of 82,574 PCR per day.
In addition, from April 23 to 29, the autonomous communities have carried out a total of 293,056 antigen tests (41,865 on average per day). Added to the PCR performed, they represent a total of 871,078 diagnostic tests performed in this period, 124,439 per day. Thus, the number of diagnostic tests performed increased by 2%, with a rate of 859.07 per 1,000 inhabitants.
Progressively, new techniques are being developed for the diagnosis of SARS-Cov2 infection, such as the rapid antigen tests that the Health Departments are beginning to introduce in the management of the pandemic.
