The total number of seats planned on international flights for the November-January quarter of 2022 amounts to 19.1 million, which represents 91.9% of the level of 2019, when 20.8 million seats were reached in the same period, according to data published by Turespaña.
On the other hand, compared to the four million registered in the same quarter of 2020, the variation in air capacity shows a growth of 374.2%.
The Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, sees in these data “a clear symptom of the confidence that the destination Spain is managing to generate in international markets.”
According to Maroto, this is in addition to the foreseeable visit of Spaniards residing abroad for Christmas, “many of whom did not come last year due to the restrictions that prevailed then.”
The minister has highlighted vaccination and effective management of the pandemic as reasons why the data reflects that “we are much better, with the possibility of moving and enjoying our leisure time safely, respecting the protection measures that are still in force” .
Comparing the forecasts for the next quarter with the data prior to the pandemic, the good performance of Poland, the Netherlands and Denmark stands out, registering growth of 15.9%, 5.4% and 1.1% in the number of seats .
At the opposite extreme is Russia, which continues to show a drop of 48.4%, followed by the United States (-36.8%), China (-28.5%) and Finland (-26.3%).
