The Valencian Institute of Culture continues its activity in Alicante with an extensive and attractive program that brings together more than thirty shows and numerous activities that consolidate the Arniches Theatre as one of the most important cultural centres in the regions of Alicante.

The first quarter of 2022 will be full of shows for adults and for the whole family to enjoy with theatre, dance, circus, music and cinema. We continue to bet on our own talent and there will be seven Valencian companies present in the program. In addition, we will be visited by groups from Andalusia, Madrid, Catalonia and Extremadura.

 

There will also be an exhibition of his own production ‘La tempesta’ and one of the concerts of the Sonora circuit. Arniches continues with its school campaign, with the cycle ‘Som menuts’, and with the usual activity of the Filmoteca.

 

Since the presentation of the 2021-2022 season in October, Cultura de la Generalitat has incorporated some new features that improve its service to the public, such as the sale of tickets online for the Filmoteca, through of the new IVC sales platform, or Regala Cultura cards, which have been put up for sale on the occasion of the Christmas festivities, and which will remain available throughout the season.

 

We are small

 

Six companies make up the cycle ‘Som menuts’, which includes shows aimed at girls and boys from the age of 1 and which offers dance, object theatre or gestural theatre. ‘Historias con Candela’ by Eugenia Manzanera; ‘Soc una nou’ by Zum-Zum Theatre that brings us closer to the world of immigration and solidarity; ‘Plastic’ by La Familia Política, on climate change; the dance show ‘Nina’ by Fil d’Arena; ‘Prometeu’ by Agrupación Señor Serrano; and the La Tal show ‘Italino Ghent Hotel’ are the proposals for IVC family audiences in Alicante.

 

Theatre

 

The Arniches Theatre opens the curtain on 2022 on Friday 14 January with a show of objects for all audiences, ‘Conservando memoria’ by El Patio Teatro, a journey that is nothing more than a game of questions to its grandparents and his desire to preserve his memory.

 

Sharing gender, on Friday 21 David Espinosa presents ‘A universal story’, which reviews the history of human beings to the present day and versions the most important facts through the manipulation of objects, choreographic action and projection of shadows.

 

To say goodbye to January, on Friday 28 La Beckett will offer ‘Karaoke Elusia’ by Oriol Puig, a highly recommended show for young audiences that addresses issues such as ‘bullying’, mental health and juvenile suicide.

 

‘Hoy puede ser mi gran noche’ is the proposal of Teatro en Vilo for Friday, February 4, a comic and musical piece, an exercise in autofiction that tells the fascinating story of an orchestra singer in the Galicia of the nineties .

 

On February 11, the company La Teta Calva returns to Arniches with ‘Espaldas de plata’ by Xavo Giménez, who reflects in this show on our daily decisions and their repercussions on the world.

 

On February 18, La Calórica revisits Aristophanes ‘Los pájaros’ to study the emotional mechanisms that make neoliberal populism work through black and absurd humour.

 

The theatre in March arrives on Friday 4 from the hand of Petra Martínez, who plays ‘La señorita doña Margarita’, a text by Roberto Athayde directed by Juan Margallo, a master class that shows that education is the key that best opens the doors . Marina Seresesky’s ‘Turistas’ is inspired by a photo taken by Javier Bauluz in 2000 in which two people can be seen continuing their holidays on the beach while a corpse is lying a few meters away. It will be performed on March 11 at the Arniches to make us reflect on the ability we sometimes have to look the other way in the face of the pain of others.

 

Cultura de la Generalitat will close its theatrical quarter in Alicante with its own production by the Valencian Institute of Culture ‘La tempesta’ by William Shakespeare, which talks about revenge, the desire for freedom, the ability to forgive and the theatre within the theatre. Dance and circus music

 

‘Genoma B’ is the free version of ‘La casa de Bernarda Alba’ proposed by the Cía. Albadulake. In February Arniches receives Jimena Amarillo, who stands out in the new Spanish pop scene for her extraordinary simplicity, very different from other proposals.

 

The passage of the Sonora circuit on the stage of the Arniches Theatre cannot be missed. It will be on March 5 with the Johny B Zero concert with Badlands.

 

The Film Library

 

Film Thursdays continue in Arniches, from January 13, with nine screenings that include both the Berlanga Year cycles and unreleased films in Alicante.

 

On the occasion of the exhibition of the production of the IVC ‘The death and the maiden’ in the Main Theatre of Alicante, awarded with three Max 2020 Prizes, will offer in the Theatre Arniches the projection of the documentary of SUICA Films: ‘ The process of creating ‘La mort i la donzella’, intramur ‘.
