The Government will put an end to the obligation to wear a mask on public transport, which includes on planes, but it will remain in health establishments and services and for workers and visitors to social health centres.
The Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, has announced that on February 7 she will submit to the Council of Ministers “the proposal to eliminate the obligation to wear a mask on public transport”, taking into account the current situation of epidemiological stability of COVID-19 and the reports from experts and scientific societies.
Will it be necessary to continue wearing a mask in pharmacies and health centres?
Yes. The mandatory use of the mask will be maintained in health establishments and services, and in social health centres for their workers and visitors. So masks will still be mandatory in health centres, hospitals, pharmacies and opticians, for example.
When will the mask stop being mandatory on public transport?
According to statements by the Minister of Health, the end of the mask on public transport will be approved by the Council of Ministers next Tuesday, February 7.
Carolina Darias will first convene the Interterritorial Council of the National Health System ( CISNS ) to coordinate the measure with the autonomous communities and cities, taking into account the Report on Alerts and Preparedness and Response Plans dependent on the Public Health Commission.
The minister recalled that all the decisions adopted in the different phases of the pandemic have been agreed upon in the CISNS and has thanked the effort and work of all the administrations, experts and scientific societies, health professionals and citizens.
