Guardia Civil investigates two drivers for recording themselves at more than 200 km/h

The Guardia Civil has investigated two people for driving at excessive speeds above 200 kilometres per hour, recording themselves while driving and posting it on social networks. Both investigated exceeded the speed established on interurban roads by more than 80 km/h, committing a crime against road safety.

On the other hand, in the province of Valladolid, the Guardia Civil detected a vehicle on the A62 that was driving without a right front wheel and without a right rear tyre, repeatedly colliding with the metallic side protection fence.

On a motorcycle at 257 km/h

In this case, the driver posted a video on social networks showing a large displacement motorcycle with the legend “life is short.” Later, in another first-person shot, you can see how he accelerates from 251 to 257 kilometres per hour, with the phrase “buy a motorcycle and make it even shorter.” The offender was traveling on the M-45 highway at the height of the municipality of San Fernando in an area where the maximum speed is limited to 120 kilometres per hour.

After analysing the video, the Guardia Civil agents of the Madrid Traffic Sector managed to identify the driver of the vehicle, a 23-year-old man from Torrejón de Ardoz.

At 209 km/h in a section of 80

The other driver, a 19-year-old man, travelled at 209 kilometres per hour at night on a section of the M-14 highway, within the municipality of Madrid, which has a specific maximum permitted speed limitation of 80 km/h. In addition to driving at this speed, endangering other road users, the offender did so while holding a mobile phone with one of his hands, with which he recorded driving and the speedometer itself, where the change can be seen from the 157 up to 209 km/h.

Both behaviours constitute a crime against road safety, typified in article 379 of the Criminal Code, which stipulates that “(…) whoever drives a motor vehicle or a moped at a speed greater than 80 km/h on interurban roads than the allowed by regulation (…), it can be punished with imprisonment from 3 to 6 months, or with a fine from 6 to 12 months or with work for the benefit of the community from 31 to 90 days and in any case, with the deprivation of the right to drive motor vehicles and mopeds for a period of more than one and up to 4 years”.

33 kilometres without wheels under the influence of alcohol and drugs

In Valladolid, the Guardia Civil has arrested a 49-year-old man, for the alleged crimes of reckless driving, driving under the influence of alcoholic beverages and/or drugs (symptoms), refusal to submit to alcohol and drug detection tests and attacking an Agent of the Authority.

In the early morning of February 19, 2023, when a patrol of the ARS of the Guardia Civil of León was providing its services in the province of Valladolid, it detected on the A-62 highway at km 126 in the direction of Burgos, a car lurching, without the right front wheel and without the right rear tyre, repeatedly colliding with the metal side protection fence and creating a serious risk to himself, as well as to other road users.

With the support of several patrols from the Valladolid Guardia Civil Traffic Group, they intercepted the vehicle and escorted it until it was stopped.

Once the vehicle has stopped, the driver of the vehicle is identified, finding him motionless and wearing sunglasses. Not being able to open the door and given the possibility that the driver had suffered a health problem, the officers broke the window to gain access to assist the driver, at which point the driver reacts hostilely towards the agents, refusing to get out of the vehicle and assaulting one of the officers by kicking and punching, for which he is reduced and arrested.

Given the indications that he might be under the influence of alcohol, drugs or narcotics, and refusing to carry out the legally established detection tests, he went to police stations. During the transfer, he caused damage to the official vehicle, as well as self-harm, for which the presence of health personnel was requested to administer the appropriate treatment, and he was transferred to the Río Carrión Hospital in the town of Palencia.
