Having been hearing evidence since Monday, the Provincial Court of Zaragoza is today expected to conclude the case against a “hitman” and the other five people allegedly involved in an attack that took place in Caspe on a minor under 17 years of age, which resulted in his face being disfigured and his body suffering “very serious burns” on account of the sulfuric acid that was used against him.
The alleged author of the ambush, Aitor GG, is facing 14 years and 8 months in prison for crimes of attempted murder, injuries and belonging to a criminal group. Even greater is the punishment that the Prosecutor proposes for the victim’s ex-sister-in-law, Sara GC, and her uncle, José GC, to whom he attributes the intellectual authorship of the attack. They each face sentences of 15 years and 5 months.
Three other people, Iván MF, Raúl CG and Teresa PL are also on trial as the Guardia Civil considers them accomplices. For these, the Public Ministry requests sentences that add up to another 14 years and 5 months in prison.
The events occurred shortly after two in the afternoon on May 3, 2019, when Kamal M. was returning home after finishing school. At the gates of his home, the hitman approached him by surprise and emptied a two-litre bottle of sulfuric acid into his head. The boy’s desperate screams made two of his brothers run away, who also suffered burns while trying to help the child. According to the Guardia Civil, the attack was revenge by Sara GC, who wanted to harm her former partner for abandoning her.
Kamal’s alleged executioner was a habitual criminal who it is said had been paid 500 euro to throw sulfuric acid at him, an extremely corrosive product.
