The average value of accumulated rainfall from the beginning of the hydrological year (October 1, 2022) to April 11 is estimated at 334 l/m2, 21% less than the normal value corresponding to said period (425 l/m2).
The accumulated amounts are below their normal values in the Cantabrian strip, except for Galicia, in a large part of the eastern half and southern third of the southern Peninsula and in the Canary Islands except in the southern half of Tenerife.
On the other hand, rainfall exceeds the normal values for the period 1991-2020 in areas of the interior and western third of the Peninsula (with the exception of Andalusia), in the eastern half of the island of Mallorca, on the island of Menorca and in the southern half of the island of Tenerife.
The whole country has been facing drought risk throughout the last year, a situation which has not improved and is now raising concerns once again as we head towards the summer season, although we do still have the rainy season of April and May which might ease the risk slightly.
