Representatives from the taxi sector and the director of the El Prat-Barcelona airport, Sònia Corrochano, will meet this Wednesday to discuss the presence of “pirate” drivers in the passenger collection area at the El Prat airport. This was announced by the spokesperson for Elite Taxi, Tito Álvarez, during the assembly in the lobby of T1 in the arrivals area with the participation of more than a hundred taxi drivers.
The collective has set up patrols made up of between two and three people in the last three weeks and has detected some fifty illegal drivers illegally recruiting tourists. According to Álvarez, these practices represent an economic loss to taxi drivers in the Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB) of at least 8 million euro per year.
Sources from the Metropolitan Taxi Institute (IMET) have confirmed the meeting, which will be held at the request of Aena and in which the Mossos d’Esquadra, the taxi associations and IMET itself will also be present.
