The Faculty of Law of the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) will host this Friday a Conference on the Challenge of Disability in the 21st Century, focused on the legal reform that put an end to judicial incapacitation and figures such as guardianship, which replaced people with disabilities in decision-making.
The meeting will be presented by Mercedes García García, delegate of the Rector for Diversity and Inclusion and professor of Differential Pedagogy.
The inaugural conference will analyse ‘The legal framework of disability’ and the ‘Master lines of Law 8/2021, on the reform of civil and procedural legislation to support people with disabilities in the exercise of their legal capacity, and will run by María Linacero de la Fuente, professor of Civil Law at the UCM.
Isidoro Lora-Tamayo Rodríguez, honorary notary of the Notarial Association of Madrid, will explain the support that can be provided from notaries, while María José Segarra, Prosecutor of the Coordinating Chamber for the care of people with disabilities and the elderly, will delve into the perspective of legal agents.
A student with a disability and the president of the Spanish Committee of Representatives of People with Disabilities (Cermi), Luis Cayo Pérez Bueno, will also take part. The meeting will conclude with a participatory debate, where proposals for improvement will be sought.
