On Tuesday, the Government will approve a program that will allow those over 65 to go to the cinema on a set day for only two euro.
The announcement was made by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, whilst on the election trail, and will, he says, be deployed in collaboration with “the main associations in the cinema sector, which represent more than 90% of the rooms”.
The program that will be approved by the Council of Ministers on Tuesday will encourage the elderly “to go to the cinema, providing support to a very important sector of our cultural activity.” It is done with a very significant price reduction, two euro —the average in 2021 was close to eight euro throughout Spain, according to the Facua consumer association—, so pensioners can go, in principle, to the flicks on a Tuesday for a bargain price, although the government has said that it will be possible for areas to establish their own day, for example, where the cinema is only open at weekend.
