This Monday the hearing prior to the trial against a woman who is accused of intentionally setting fire to the house where she lived and leaving the property without notifying the other members of the household will be held at the Provincial Court on the island of Mallorca.
The prosecutor’s brief details that the events occurred in Port de Pollença, when the defendant set fire to a curtain and furniture in a room in the basement of the house where she lived, owned by another person, quickly spreading to other rooms of the home.
The fire, continues the Public Ministry, went up to the upper floors, so the woman left the house, although without notifying the rest of the residents, seriously endangering their lives and integrity.
Specifically, at the time of the events, a 62-year-old woman was sleeping in her room who woke up due to the heat, realising that the house was on fire. Later she shouted to the other occupants and, unable to go down to the ground floor due to the density of the smoke, she went up to the upper floor, went out onto a roof and from there she was rescued by the Guardia Civil.
Likewise, there was another 65-year-old person and his grandson, a minor, who woke up to knocking on his door, into whose room smoke was beginning to enter. The two were able to escape by going upstairs, being rescued again by the Guardia Civil.
As a result of the fire, the basement of the house was completely burned, and the furniture turned to ashes. Likewise, according to the Prosecutor’s Office, it caused numerous damages to paint, furniture and the electrical system, expertly valued at 5,715 euro. The occupants of the home did not suffer any injuries.
For all this, in addition to the prison sentence, the Public Prosecutor requests that the defendant pay 5,517 euro for the damage caused and another 5,000 for the moral damages caused.
