The latest data released by the state meteorological group, AEMET, this week show the national average value of accumulated rainfall from the beginning of the hydrological year (October 1, 2022) until May 30, 2023 is estimated at 403 l/m 2, which represents around 22% less than the normal value corresponding to said period (519 l/m 2).
During the period from May 24 to 30, rainfall affected the entire territory except the easternmost islands of the Canary archipelago.
Rainfall exceeded 10 mm throughout the Peninsula with the exception of areas of the Cantabrian coast, the Ebro valley and southern Andalusia. 10 mm were also exceeded in the Pitiusas, in Menorca and in the southern half of the island of Majorca. The most notable precipitations, reaching more than 100 mm, occurred at points along the Castellón coast, in the Sierra de Gredos, to the south of Ourense, in the Sierra Nevada and to the southeast of the province of Ciudad Real.
Among the accumulated rainfall in main observatories, the following stand out: 126 mm in Castellón/Almazora, 74 mm in Madrid/Barajas, 69 mm in ColmenarViejo/FAMET, 66 mm in Toledo and Murcia/Alcantarilla and 64 mm in Palma de Mallorca/Son San Joan. On the 31st, rainfall in the form of storms was recorded in many parts of the Peninsula, especially in the northern half.
Rainfall in the hydrological year

The accumulated amounts are below their normal values in most of the Peninsula and archipelagos, especially in the eastern and southern half. In many areas, 75% of its normal value is not reached, as is the case in the northeast and southwest quadrants of the peninsula and in most of the Canary Islands.
On the other hand, rainfall exceeds the normal values for the period 1991-2020 in areas of Galicia, in the southwest of Castilla y León and in the province of Cáceres, in an area between Almería, Murcia and Albacete, in the eastern half of the island of Majorca, on the island of Menorca and on the southern half of the island of Tenerife.
