The Ministry of Culture and Sports has collaborated in the blocking of 450 domains infringing Intellectual Property Law, deployed in 1,500 subdomains, since the signing, on April 8, 2021, of the Protocol for the reinforcement of intellectual property rights on the Internet between the Coalition of creators and cultural industries and the holders and providers of Internet access services.

In addition, during 2022, the Second Section of the Intellectual Property Commission of the Ministry of Culture and Sports blocked 25 infringing web pages through the procedure for safeguarding intellectual property rights on the Internet, following complaints filed by copyright holders, whose contents were being exploited without authorisation.

Likewise, on a quarterly basis, the Second Section has been incorporating into the secure platform of the World Intellectual Property Organisation WIPO ALERT the websites that infringe the Intellectual Property Law so that advertising companies can avoid inserting ads on them and cut financing. As of December 31, 2022, there were 535 domain names incorporated by Spain into said platform.

Finally, under the National Plan for Internet domain names, the public business entity Red.es has cancelled, until 2022, 15 website domain names reported at the request of the Second Section.

On the other hand, the State Security Forces and Corps (FCSE) seized in 2022 a total of 12,588 items that violated intellectual property rights, products valued at a total of 1,295,095 euro.

These data are collected in the 2022 balance of the fight against the violation of intellectual property rights published by the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Culture and Sports, in collaboration with the National Association for the Defence of the Brand (ANDEMA), an association attached to the Superior Council of Chambers of Commerce.

The Valencian Community is the one in which the greatest number of objects (5,861) was intervened during 2022, followed by the Canary Islands (2,243) and Andalusia (2,193). In total, the FCSE investigated 130 possible violations of the Intellectual Property Law that led to the arrest and investigation of 208 people.

Most of the police seizures (44.4 percent) were made in factories or warehouses. Madrid (with 28 actions), Andalusia (25), Catalonia (24) and the Valencian Community (with 17) are the communities in which the most investigations were opened during 2022.

This statistic includes the total number of police interventions carried out by the National Police, Guardia Civil, Ertzaintza, Navarra Foral Police and Mossos d’Esquadra, as well as various local police forces.
