Officers from the Guardia Civil, in a joint operation with the National Police, the Polish and German Police, EUROPOL and EUROJUST, dismantled an organisation that introduced five and a half tons of drugs into Europe.
The organisation – which operated in Poland, Spain, Germany, Ecuador and Lithuania – is responsible for the introduction into Europe of five tons of marijuana and hashish, and almost half a ton of cocaine. Ten people have been arrested in this operation, two of them in Spain, seven in Poland and one more in Germany, and two AK-47 machine guns, a GPS signal jammer and vehicle theft material have been seized.
They distributed drugs from Ecuador and Spain to Poland
The investigation began when Polish Police officers learned of the existence of an international criminal organisation that was engaged in the distribution of cocaine, marijuana and hashish from Ecuador and Spain to Poland, mainly in the provinces of Podkarpackie, Podlaskie, Śląskie, Mazowieckie, Kujawsko-Pomorskie and Lubuskie. The steps taken by the investigators showed that, since 2018, the members of the group had introduced into Poland around five tons of marijuana and hashish, and almost half a ton of cocaine.
In Spain, agents of the National Police, the Guardia Civil, Poland’s Centralne Biuro Śledcze Policji (CBŚP) and the Border Guard, detained two men wanted under European arrest warrants issued by a Polish court at the request of the West Pomerania National Prosecutor’s Office. In this intervention, the agents also seized an AK-47 machine gun.
Simultaneously in Poland, investigators arrested seven other members of the same organisation, some of them with connections to Polish sports club hooligans. Also, three of these arrested were wanted by European arrest warrants issued by a Polish court, at the request of the National Prosecutor’s Office of Western Pomerania. During this operation, the agents intervened another AK-47 machine gun, as well as a GPS signal jammer, equipment that could be used to steal cars, other people’s identity documents, mobile phones, computers and other computer data carriers.
In Germany, police officers arrested a man on whom a European Arrest Warrant was issued at the Frankfurt airport, shortly before his departure for Colombia.
Finally, extradition procedures have been carried out for the detainees in Spain and Germany. Those arrested are suspected of being members of a criminal organisation that trafficked large amounts of drugs.
It should be noted that, as part of the investigation of this criminal group in recent years, the CBŚP police officers (Poland) seized 73 kilos of marijuana that were being transported by plane from Spain to Poland.
International police cooperation has been key in this operation
The operation has been carried out thanks to international police cooperation, since the members of the organisation not only operated in Poland, but also in Spain, Germany, Lithuania and Ecuador, for which joint work was carried out between the Police of these countries, Europol and Eurojust.
