The Guardia Civil has arrested the members of a criminal organisation dedicated to stealing mobile phones, money and other valuables from the changing room lockers of many soccer fields nationwide. This group took advantage of the fact that the owners were doing sports on the soccer fields.
The Rox23 operation began with a complaint about the theft of 12 mobile phones at the La Puebla de Montalbán soccer field in Toledo. While several young people were training at the sports venue, a group of people took the opportunity to access the interior of the facilities and steal cash and valuables that they kept from the mobile lockers.
This group travelled hundreds of kilometres a day to choose the sports complexes where they robbed both weekday training sessions and weekend games. The victims belonged to all categories, from amateur teams to affiliates of professional clubs with players from the lower categories of Real Valladolid, Atlético de Madrid or CD Alcorcón. After getting their loot, they left the soccer field, the players not realising the robbery until they finished training or playing the game.
The investigation by the Roca Team of the Torrijos Guardia Civil began by conducting hundreds of interviews with victims and witnesses in order to link the crimes. The agents attribute at least 123 abductions throughout the country, in towns and capitals of the provinces of Toledo, Salamanca, Burgos, Ávila, Valladolid, Guadalajara, Madrid, Ciudad Real and Cuenca.
The Guardia Civil has arrested four people, three men and one woman, aged between 22 and 38. 40 mobile phones and about 6,500 euro in cash have been recovered.
The operation has been carried out by the Roca Team of the Guardia Civil in Torrijos, the Organic Unit of the Judicial Police of Toledo, agents from the La Puebla de Montalbán post, the Citizen Security Unit of Madrid and a team of conductors from Toledo.
