The Guardia Civil, the National Police and Customs Surveillance of the Tax Agency have seized 3,750 kilos of hashish in two operations carried out in Huelva in an interval of eight days. The actions carried out are the result of coordinated surveillance by the three bodies deployed in the framework of the intensification of the fight against drug trafficking on the Huelva coast.
The first of the operations began on the night of June 1 when investigators, in a joint surveillance device, detected a visibly overloaded van that was stopped.
The driver of the vehicle ignored the instructions of the agents and thus began a chase through the area of the Isla Canela marshes until he could not continue due to the harassment of the police vehicles. The driver then abandoned the pursued van and fled.
After an initial visual inspection of the seized van, a total of 78 bales of burlap and raffia of those commonly used for transporting hashish resin were found inside, weighing approximately 2,700 kilos. In addition, it was found that the intervened van had bent registration plates and that it was a stolen vehicle in the province of Badajoz.
Both the drug and the seized effects were made available to the Court of First Instance and Instruction number 1 of Ayamonte.
The second operation began on the night of June 9, when the Integrated External Surveillance System (SIVE) detected a semi-rigid vessel, known as ‘narcolanchas’, south of Punta UmbrÃa. A ground operation was immediately arranged on suspicion that a drug trafficking operation could be carried out.
Minutes later, the acting agents detected how a recreational boat, about six metres in length, was leaving the Punta UmbrÃa estuary heading south. This boat was later attached to the ‘narcolancha’, at which time the packages were transferred from the semi-rigid to the pleasure boat.
Once the transfer of packages was finished, the recreational boat headed north to enter the Punta UmbrÃa estuary again, starting by the researchers a discreet terrestrial monitoring device. The boat finally stopped in the area of the Astur salt flats. Once it made landfall, the investigators acted by land, surprising the suspects and they fled.
Inside the seized vessel were 30 bundles of burlap and raffia, commonly used for transporting hashish resin, weighing approximately 1,050 kilos.
Both the boat and the seized narcotic substance were transferred to the port of Huelva. The drugs and the effects were made available to the Court of First Instance and Instruction number 5 of Huelva, with the knowledge of the Special Anti-drug Prosecutor of Huelva.
Both investigations are still open by the Guardia Civil, National Police and Customs Surveillance, and arrests are not ruled out.
These interventions are the result of the intensification of the fight against smuggling and drug trafficking carried out by officials of the Guardia Civil, National Police and Customs Surveillance on the Huelva coast.
