As part of their election manifesto as we approach the national elections later this month, the far-right Vox party, formed originally by disillusioned members of the PP, and now heavily supported by that group who are relying on them to secure the victory, has published their foreign policy.
Although foreign policy does not mention Ukraine, it does call for the intensification of “diplomatic actions for the return of Gibraltar”. Whereas “diplomatic” might seem like soft language to use, the phrase “return of Gibraltar” is not, and is likely to inflame tensions once again between the UK and Spain.
It should be noted that on the other side of the water, Vox are demanding the opposite, as in north Africa, they demand from Morocco “total recognition and respect for the Spanish sovereignty of Ceuta and Melilla”.
In terms of immigration, Vox proposes the “Deportation of illegal immigrants to their countries of origin”, which would of course include many people of various nationalities (who will also be forced to be able to speak a higher level of Spanish to obtain nationality), to “immediately” expel immigrants who commit serious crimes, eliminate public aid for illegal immigrants and close centres for unaccompanied minors.
Furthermore, it proposes outlawing pro-independence parties, abolishing regional governmental bodies, abolishing the regional police and sending the army in to deal with those areas who want independence, such as the Basque Country and Catalonia.
They also plan to repeal the Labour reform, and award companies for employing Spanish workers. Penalise “harshly, including withdrawal of licences, concessions and authorisations”, those who employ immigrants without a residence permit.
They will also repeal the Euthanasia Law and the Free Abortion Law, halt all funding to associations who are not “pro-life”, and ban surrogacy.
They will repeal the Comprehensive Law on Gender Violence, abolish the Ministry of Equality, eliminate “all gender legislation and that establishes labour differences between Spaniards”, repeal the LGTBIQ+ laws and the trans law, as well as the law of ‘only yes is yes’, and they will suppress “ideological organisations” and “subsidies to parties, unions, employers and other political entities”.
In environmental terms, they will boost nuclear power, including reactivating mothballed reactors, and they will repeal the climate change law, and have specifically mentioned the Mar Menor, where the law which offers the area protection will also be repealed. They will support bullfighting, with financial incentives, and will ensure that hunting and hunters are protected.
They will however create a national network of soup kitchens.
It should be noted, again, that Vox has gained momentum as they and their policies are now being facilitated by the PP.
