Butane gas price drops from Tuesday

There´s great news if you´re thinking of putting the heating on, or cooking a hearty stew, as the price of a butane gas cylinder drops again from Tuesday, and will now cost 15.18 euro.

This equates to another 5% saving, compared to the price up until yesterday of 15.97 euro. This price refers to the contracted price of a cylinder however, in other words one delivered to your home, and not those sold in petrol stations which are sold into a free market arrangement, and can vary.

Butane cylinders have the price regulated by the Government of Spain through Royal Decree Law 11/2022, by which certain measures are adopted and extended to respond to the economic and social consequences of the war in Ukraine. This implies that the amount of said bottle is reviewed on the third Tuesday of the odd months.

Since the measure to regulate the price of butane was adopted due to the energy crisis caused by the war in Ukraine, it was established that the cost of these, regardless of the price of fuel at that time, could not be higher or lower than 5% of the amount being paid at the time of the review.

This means that in the review coming into force today, the price could have increased, but only up to 16.76 euro, but has in fact, once again, decreased by the maximum permitted amount.

When will the price of the butane cylinder be updated again?

The limitations on the price of butane will be in force until December 31, 2023, therefore, until then, it will be reviewed every two months, the next being September 18, the date on which it will be published in the BOE, and will enter into force the following day, that is, Tuesday, September 19.

How the price of the butane cylinder is calculated

To calculate the price, it will be necessary to look at the maximum set in the resolution, which is in euro cents per kilo, and that value will have to be multiplied by 12.5, which is the price of the traditional butane cylinder. Taxes must be added to this amount, both hydrocarbons and 21% IVA (Value Added Tax).
