Aldi is continuing its expansion plan in Spain with four new stores openings in September. Specifically, the supermarket chain will strengthen its presence in the north of the country with new stores in Vitoria-Gasteiz (Álava) as well as in Pontevedra. Also in September, Aldi will bet on Barcelona again and will open its second store in the city of Cáceres.
With these openings, Aldi gives impetus to its expansion plan in Spain for 2023, with which it aims to consolidate itself in strategic areas for the company and continue to grow in those where it recently arrived or is not yet present. This growth will be marked, among other milestones, by the company’s arrival in the autonomous city of Melilla, in the second half of the year. Currently, Aldi has more than 400 stores spread throughout the national territory.
To support its sustained growth in Spain, Aldi plans to hire more than 600 employees during the second half of 2023. In total, the supermarket chain plans to end the year with more than 7,600 workers in Spain, which represents an increase of 15% compared to the end of 2022, thus reinforcing its commitment to the national market and stable employment.
BASQUE COUNTRY AND GALICIA
On September 6, Aldi will open its fourth store in Vitoria-Gasteiz. This is the first opening of Aldi this year in the Basque Country, where it already has a total of 16 supermarkets.
Aldi will also celebrate its second opening in the city of Pontevedra in less than six months. The company, which landed in the Galician city last April, will offer at the end of the month a new purchasing option with an assortment of more than 2,000 products, 80% of national origin and 86% of its own brand.
CATALONIA AND EXTREMADURA
To boost its growth in Catalonia, Aldi will open a new store in Barcelona’s Gracia district on September 13. The new supermarket will be the company’s fifth opening in Catalonia so far this year, the last of them in Vilanova i la Geltrú (Barcelona) at the beginning of July. These inaugurations reaffirm the company’s commitment to continue growing in Barcelona, the province with the most Aldi stores in Spain, with a total of 62 branches.
In addition, Aldi will also consolidate its presence in Extremadura in September with the opening of its second supermarket in the city of Cáceres, in addition to the one that opened its doors at the end of July in the municipality of Villanueva de la Serena (Badajoz). With both openings, the supermarket chain will add 8 establishments in the Extremadura region.
