Details of new 2024 2-euro coin released

A new 2-euro coin has entered into circulation in Spain, valid from now on throughout the continent, commemorating “The Cathedral, the Alcázar and the Archive of the Indies of Seville”.

The technical characteristics is of a bimetallic coin, the motifs are distributed in two areas of different alloy and colour. The colour of the outer circular crown is silver white and the colour of the inner area is golden yellow, as is standard.

On the obverse, a view of the Patio de las Doncellas of the Real Alcázar of Seville is reproduced. At the top, in a circular direction and in capital letters, the legend SEVILLA appears; Below, the Mint mark. At the bottom, in a circular direction and in capital letters, the legend ESPAÑA and the year of minting 2024 appear. Surrounding all the motifs and legends, in the outer circular area of ​​the coin, the twelve stars of the European Union appear.

On the common reverse of the coin, on the left side, appears the figure that represents the face value of the coin. On the right side appear, from one end to the other, six vertical lines on which twelve stars are superimposed, each star being located next to the ends of each line. On the right side there is also a representation of the European continent. The right part of this representation is superimposed on the central part of the lines. The word EURO, in capital letters, is superimposed horizontally in the centre right part of the common face. Below the O in the word EURO are the engraver’s initials in capital letters LL, along the edge of the right side of the coin.

The inscription appears on the edge: 2 * *, repeated six times and oriented alternately from bottom to top and from top to bottom.

The initial date of issue and circulation of the coins will take place during the first quarter of 2024.

The maximum volume of coins minted will be 1,500,000 pieces.

As the ministerial order was only published this weekend, we do not yet have an actual image of the coin until it is produced.
