Electricity generated by photovoltaics has broken all records in Spain, having generated more electricity so far in 2023 than the whole of 2022. Not forgetting that wind generated electricity has also increased, showing how green energy solutions can make a difference.
According to Red Eléctrica’s forecasts, the electricity generated with this technology will reach 27,968 GWh so far in 2023, exceeding its production for the entire year 2022, which was 27,902 GWh. Thus, this renewable source beats its historical record for annual production and to date has experienced an increase of 32.3% compared to that accumulated between January 1 and September 6, 2022.
This maximum record of photovoltaic solar is due, mainly, to the favourable weather conditions and the installed power of this technology that Spain has, which allows it to make more and better use of sunlight to generate this non-polluting energy. Currently, solar photovoltaics is the third technology with the greatest presence in the generation park, with 22,454 MW installed.
According to the data available, solar photovoltaic is, with 15.1% of the total, the fourth source that has produced the most electricity in Spain since January in a mix led by wind, responsible for 22.4% of the total. With the promotion of solar and wind technology, half of the energy produced in our country is of renewable origin.
With a greater number of hours of sunlight available, the summer months are the ones in which the contribution to the advancement of the ecological transition of photovoltaics in our country can be most appreciated. Last July, with 4,530 GWh, was the month with the greatest contribution of this technology, which increased its production by 33.6% compared to July 2022.
Shortly after, on Wednesday, August 2, solar photovoltaic once again marked a new milestone by registering a new maximum daily production at the national level, with 161 GWh. In global terms, solar photovoltaics have been responsible for more than 20% of the total daily energy produced in some days in July and August.
